US$70/bbl could be a sweet spot

To properly meet future energy demands, the price of oil has to rise to attract the necessary investment, according to Nicole Leonard, a senior energy analyst at SP Global Platts. "In 2018-19, we are going to need to see US$70/bbl WTI consistently in order to see oil grow fast enough in order to meet yearly demand growth, and the U.S. alone isn't going to be able to do that," Leonard told the SP Global Ratings Midstream Energy and Oil Gas Breakfast Forum in Calgary at the end of January.
