摘要

We extent the two-level finite element method(2LFEM) to the accurate analysis of axisymmetric cracks, whereboth the crack geometry and applied loads are symmetrical aboutthe axis of rotation. The complete eigenfunction expansion seriesfor axisymmetric cracks developed by us are employed as theglobal interpolation function such that the stress intensity factorsare primary unknowns. The coupled coefficients in the series aresolved iteratively. The stress intensity factors are computeddirectly from the coefficients for any arbitrary axisymmetricloading on the boundary. Engineering applications of 2LFEM tonumerical fracture mechanics analysis for stress intensity factorsinclude several examples: Penny-shaped and circumferentialcracks in round bars; and internal and edge circumferential cracksin thick wall pipes.
