Reliance Posts Strong Quarterly Profit

Indian refiner Reliance Industries said Thursday that its net profit for the quarter ended Jun. 30 rose 8.6 year-to-year, helped by strong growth in its petrochemicals business. The Mumbai-based company's quarterly net profit, on a stand-alone basis, rose to 81.96 billion rupees compared with 75.48 billion rupees ($1.27 billion) a year earlier. Sales for the quarter rose 18.4 annually from 594.93 billion rupees to 704.34 billion rupees, it said in a statement.
