摘要

If you are working in a clinical area and have some involvement with students, you may well see part of that role as teaching them about the sort of conditions and care that your patients require. You may also think that you have to do that by conducting mini lectures. Have you tried using seminars in your clinical area? Think back to your student days, try and recall some of the lectures you had. You can probably remember sitting in the classroom as a student and you can almost certainly remember your lecturers standing up in front of the class, but can you remember what they were saying? Very few people have the sort of brains that can recall that sort of information in the following weeks, not to mention years. To learn things, we need to discuss them. Somehow the discussion helps us to clarify complex issues and it enables us to embed details into our brains. Discussions also help us to connect facts with feelings. They allow students to explore what they want to learn, to ask questions that puzzle them, explore areas that interest them, and they can see and hear what other people are asking and appreciate their views and opinions.
