The first round of awards from the Nursing Technology Fund were announced earlier this year (NHS England, 2014). The ￡100 million fund is available to spend on devices to help NHS nurses, midwives and care assistants. Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DH) has set a target of a paperless NHS by 2018 with the aim of saving billions of pounds, advance service provision and help nurses and other health and social care professionals to meet the challenges of a population that is ageing (DH, 2013a).
