Professional indemnity: are you insured?

The Department of Health (DH) (2013) has produced a paper for consultation concerning professional indemnity. Legislation will be introduced that will require all registered health professionals to hold an indemnity arrangement as a condition of their registration, in order to meet the EU Directive on the application of patients' rights in cross-border health care. In the UK there are approximately 1.4 million health professionals on statutory registers (DH, 2013). The DH is required to undertake a consultation under the Health Act 1999; the consultation will run for a period of 12 weeks until 17 May 2013.
