摘要

Purpose: To provide a sound discussion on Theory of Inventive Problem Solving methodology [TRIZ] and see how it fits with other quality initiatives. Design/methodology/approach: A conceptual paper that takes at in-depth look at its origins, tools, concepts, methodology, pros and cons of TRIZ methodology. Findings: Ultimate goal of Theory of Inventive Problem Solving methodology is to solve inventive problems. The four main paradigms; Contradictions, Ideality, Functionality, and Uses of resources, are discussed in details to strengthen awareness and understanding of the methodology, this discussion unveils the deployment strategies of TRIZ tools to manage the risks associated with drives to continually improve existing or create new manufacturing capabilities. Research implications/limitations: This is a conceptual study and hence there are no hypothesis tested. It does provide a foundation for future. Practical implications: A very useful source of information and impartial advice for researchers seeking inventive solutions for routine/critical problems. Originality/value: This paper fulfils an identified resource need for inventive problem solving. The success of this methodology along with other quality initiatives like Six Sigma and Quality Function Deployment [QFD] will deliver zero defect product/process delivery and produces overall better results.
