Effect of short-term dermal toxicity of fenvalerate on broiler chicks : residue, cell architecture and biochemical profiles

摘要

The effect of fenvalerate on cell architecture, tissue biochemical profiles and its residual concentration was studied in broiler chicks following dermal application at 5% in ethanol once daily for 31 days. Fenvalerate did neither produce loss of body weight nor clinical signs of toxicity. Omental fat contained maximal residue followed by kidney, liver, brain and heart in sequence; Fenvalerate decreased the AST activity in kindney, brain and heart; AP and AcP activities in liver, kidney, heart and brain; and Ache activity in liver and brain tissue. It increased the AST activity in liver, ALT activity in kidney and heart tissues; and glycogen content of both liver and heart tissue homogenates. It produced proliferation of bile duct, periportal fibrosis, aggregation of mononuclear cells resembling lymphocytic nodule in liver; hypertrophy of glomeruli, degeneration and fibrosis of the glomeruli accompanied by infiltration of mononuclear cells in between cardiac muscle fibre and formed thrombi within the endocardial vessel. It did not produce any pathological changes of brain tissue.
