Realism in nursing in 2010.

The New Year (2010) has arrived and with it come hopes and predictions for the future. There is no doubt that the current recession will dominate the headlines, and the general election will bring little cheer to one of the most serious crises faced by this country since the end of the Second World War. Forecasts of business difficulties, rises in unemployment and the pound Continuing to struggle are causing growing concern across all sectors of British society. Health care will, we are told, be protected but there are concerns about what that actually means in practice. There is a need for more precise information about the current economic situation and how that might affect health care and nursing in particular. Too much spin and hyperbole or exaggerated statements leave us guessing as to what will happen as we reach the end of the first decade of the 21st century.
