摘要

Antidote potentials of aqueous extract of stem-bark of Tamarindusindica was evaluated by intoxicating rats with crude leaf extract of Erythrophleumafricanum(2000mg/kg body weight). Eiythrophleumafricanumleaf aqueous extract oral administration (2000mg/kg) significantly raised the levels of Aspartate transaminase (51.5 ±15.5), Alanine transaminase (58.0 ± 19.1), Alkaline phosphatase (674.8 ± 0.8) and decreased the levels of total protein (25.7 ± 9.1). Treatment with Tamarindusindicastem bark aqueous extract (2000mg/kg) for seven days statistically lowered the levels of these liver function indices suggesting hepatoprotective effect of the extract against the toxic effect induced by the Erythrophleumafricanum.
