This article describes the computation of the resonant frequencies of a cylindrical applicator through circuital analysis theory, using the unified particle swarm optimisation (UPSO) algorithm and a new variant of the harmony search (HS) algorithm, called self-adjustable bandwidth harmony search (SBHS) algorithm. It was found that SBHS yields more accurate results, but took somewhat longer. Even so, both approaches provided similar results when considering the penalty factor. We also found that as more solutions appear in the frequency range, it seems easier for SBHS to identify them, thus requiring less iterations and computation time. Results showed that this type of models can be solved efficiently using SBHS.
