Meeting the challenges of swine flu.

The lot of a nurse educator is a complex one. As with all variants of nursing, some days are relatively predictable and some are unique and will never be repeated. In clinical practice, certain situations occur at a similar time each year and can be planned for. Similarly, in education, there are predictable events such as examinations, with their subsequent referrals and placements in the university vacation periods. These are planned for and dealt with on an annual basis. Other situations, in both contexts, can be predicted and anticipated but happen in a less cyclical fashion. In education, one example of this is the investigation of professional suitability, where every case is different - we cannot predict what they will be or when they will occur but we can be reasonably confident that cases will be identified from time to time. Then there are medical challenges that come along once in a blue moon - the contemporary example of this being swine flu.
