摘要

This article is concerned with a discrete numerical approach to solve problems with localized singularities based on the finite element method. For this purpose, the piecewise polynomial approximation is appended with singular basis functions. The proposed scheme can model singularities with any strength. Implementation based on the least-squares formulation exhibited superior performance than that with the weighted residual method.
