Is poor care cause for concern in nurse education?

Yet again this week I woke up to the voice of a hostile radio presenter accusing nurses in local NHS trusts of delivering care that was not up to the standard expected. Others soon joined the presenter on the airwaves. Some had horror stories of friends and relatives who had received care that was not safe, dignified or compassionate. Others were grateful for the nursing contribution and described overstretched empathetic kind and considerate professionals who had positively influenced their experience of the health service. During the next hour, nurses were epitomised as devils and angels in fairly equal measure and yet again, I found myself analysing the concept of care in nursing and nurse education.
