Modeling and Simulation of Evaporator Used in Automobile Air Conditioning System

R134a uses PAG oil as lubricant, which is known, for its high hygroscopicity. Interchanging the oil or using the water borne oil in the service floor may lead to serious service issues. Therefore, to eliminate PAG oil and to use the conventional mineral oil as lubricant R134a is mixed with R600a and R290 refrigerant mixture in the proportion of 91%, 4.93% and 4.07% by mass (named M09). This paper deals with the modeling and simulation of an evaporator (as dehumidifying coil) pertaining to an automobile air conditioning system operated with R12 and M09 as the refrigerant. The correlation available in the published literature is used in the simulation process. The simulated results are compared with the experimental results for validation. It has been found that the simulated results are in good agreement with the experimental results.
