A Framework for Evaluating Return on Investment in Management Development Programs

Return on Investment (ROI) is a financial metric that can be used to evaluatetraining and development investments. The objective of this research is to developan evaluation process using ROI to assess the financial performance of managementdevelopment programs. A three-phase model for ROI evaluation is presented. Thesephases include assessment planning, data collection, and data analysis. This modelis then tested and applied to a management development program. This paperprovides a template for ROI evaluation that can be used to evaluate a wide varietyof training and development activities by food and agribusiness firms.
