Having completed almost two decades of negotiations, Russia recently became the 156~(th) member of the World Trade Organization. Vladimir Putin, the head of Russia's government for a third term, is seeking annual growth of about 6% to turn the S 1.9 trillion economy into one of the world s five largest by purchasing power. Putin is pushing for a bigger role for the country and other leading emerging market nations, alleging that richer countries failed to control the debt crisis.
