Some observations on ticks of Yemen Arab Republic

Seventeen species of ticks were collected off camel, cattle, sheep, goats, donkey, dog, poultry and soil near cattle yards during a survey carried out in Yemen Arab Republic in 1972. Of these, Amblyomma variegatum was recorded for the first time in sheep and goat. Boophilus kohlsi was collected off a goat which was the first record of this tick outside Jordan and neighbouring countries. The need for the study of tick resistant genes of animals has been suggested. Several breeds of cattle have been developed in other countries of the world by using tick resistant cattle breeds of India.
