Diabetes mellitus is a disease concerned with abnormal carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism. Though bringing of euglycaemia is the primary therapeutic artifice in diabetes mellituS yet in many cases it is an elusive achievement and even if attained, it may not offset the occurance of diabetic complications. This itself suggests a common denominator, proposed to be free radicals induced oxidative stress underlying the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. One of the indirect parameters of oxidative stress involves measurements of lipid peroxidation products. The study indicated an increase in serum lipid peroxidation, a vital fall out of oxidative stress exerted by free radicals can be used as an adjunct to or complimentary of glycaemia and otherrelated serum components in the evaluation of diagnosis, prognosis and disease status in canine diabetes mellitus.
