摘要

Polydactyly is a term used to denote the presence of supernumerary digits (Jubb et al, 1993, Leipold et al., 1993, Ozcan et al., 2004). It is an inherited trait of various bovine breeds but the inheritance pattern is not well understood (Jubb et al, 1993). The condition has been reported in exotic breeds of cattle but not in indigenous cattle. A day old local indigenous cow calf was brought to the clinic with the history of some abnormality in hind quarters and inability to stand since birth. On examination, both the fore limbs were normal; having two digits in each foot but the hind limbs had four digits on each foot (Fig.). There was no fusion or non-division of functiopal digits. Radiographic facility could have explored details about the effective anatomical development of the extra digits.
