Micrometry of different parasitic ova of free ranging wild life

Wild animals and birds suffer from various parasitic diseases in free living state. The present study was undertaken to provide the information regarding the micrometry and morphometry of parasitic ova of various wild animals. Microscopically, the eggs and larvae from the faecal samples of various wild animals were identified based on their morphometry and micrometry to ascertain the sepecies of the endoparasites. The lengths of ova/eggs/larvae were measured. In the faecal sample of Tiger, the ova of Paragonimus westermanii was confirmed on measurements of 80-85#mu# by 45-60#mu#. The eggs appeared yellowish in colour and were provided with an operculum. The measurements are in agreement with the findings of Fowler (1986). The source of infection was thought to be water wherein metacercaria might have been released from the intermediate host and might have been ingested by the Tiger.
