Sugarcane clones tolerant to post harvest cane quality deterioration in north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.

Promising pre-released sugarcane clones and cultivars (2001 A 241, 2000 A 56, Madhurima, 2000 A 63, 2000 A 175, 2000 A 105, 2000 A 213, CoC 01061, 2000 A 226 and Co6907(C)) were evaluated for juice quality parameters at different crop ages (11, 12 and 13 months) and at different intervals of crushing after harvest (12-h intervals from harvest to 84 hours after harvest) in Andhra Pradesh, India during 2007 and 2008. Data were recorded for percent juice sucrose, pH and reducing sugar content as well as dextran and titratable acidity index. Quality deterioration was more pronounced at 84 hours after harvest than at other stages in all cultivars. Sugarcane clones 2000 A 241, 2000 A 63, 2000 A 175, Coc 01061 and 2000 A 226 were found to be more resistant to postharvest deterioration compared with other clones.
