The Comprehensive Upgrading of an MH-1201 Mass Spectrometer

The set of operations used to upgrade an MH-1201 magnetic sector mass spectrometer is described. The upgrading consisted of automating the recording system, developing the software, and modifying the vacuum system The modified instrument was tested by analyzing both CO{sub}2 samples with a natural isotopic composition of oxygen and water samples enriched with the 18{sup left}O isotope. The reproducibility of results from measuring the 16{sup left}O concentration was 0.005%. For water samples enriched with 18{sup left}O, the experimental results correlate with the predetermined isotopic concentrations.
