Hormats Sees IPR, Ag, Services As Areas Of U.S.-China Mutual Interest

In a Dec. 6 speech delivered in Nanjing, a senior State Department official said that protecting of intellectual property rights (IPR), facilitating agricultural trade, financial sector reform and attracting more Chinese investment in the United States are among potential areas for U.S.-China cooperation. Both sides' interests align in these areas, meaning Chinese reforms will help Chinese stakeholders as well as U.S. companies, according to Robert Hormats, under secretary of State for economic growth, energy and the environment. But he also said that in some of these areas, the two sides also face challenges for the bilateral economic relationship.
