Finance Customs Bill Contains Stricter Version Of Duty Evasion Language

The customs reauthorization bill introduced by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-UT) late last week contains strong language meant to combat the evasion of trade remedy duties by exporters in China and around the world. That language, originally put forth by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) in a separate bill known as the ENFORCE Act, imposes binding deadlines on U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to take action on evasion complaints.
