At the ThyssenKrupp Dortmund Beta plant, where steel strip is manufactured, an airknife drying system is helping to enhance efficiency and significantly reduce energy costs. During the manufacturing process of steel strip, scale has to be removed from the strip's surface before it passes through the rolling mill. To achieve this de-scaling, the strip passes through an acid 'pickling' bath. The acid is then neutralised by passing through a 'washing' bath. Afterwards, the strip is dried to avoid the risk of corrosion.
