摘要

Adolescence is a time for change. In a time when being "different" is a fate worse than death, POOS can create significant challenges. From your own discipline perspective, please describe two of the developmental challenges this population faces in accepting and managing their symptoms. Weiner: Weight gain (for most woman), especially around the mid-section, can be challenging and can lead to depression. As a teenager is still growing and developing (both physically and emotionally), weight gain is problematic. If PCOS is not diagnosed, young women feel as if they are "failing" at their attempt to eat well and achieve a desirable body weight. In my practice, I work with young women with PCOS to help them eat well, nourish their bodies, and improve overall fitness. It is important not to define success by the scale alone. So we set goals to include improved physical fitness.
