Tata Refractories plant in China

INDIA'S LEADING refractories producer, Tata Refractories Ltd (TRL) has established a new plant in China, a first for the company, for the production of MgO-C bricks. Located in Bayuquan, Liaoning, the investment in the new plant is some Rs. 270m.(5.92 million dollars.) and production capacity is designed to be in the order of 30,000 tpa. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned by 1 January 2007. Much like the new Polish-Chinese joint venture (see p.28), this strategic initiative has been taken by TRL to leverage the availability of magnesite in China and also to manufacture and supply cost effective MgO-C bricks to customers. TRL also points out that this is also in line with Chinese government's policy of restricting raw material supply and encouraging the production of value added finished products.
