Steenbok garnet-kyanite-staurolite

The staurolite, kyanite, garnet, and mica deposits at Steenbok Farm are located about 40km east-south-east of the town of Port Nolloth, on the west coast of Namaqualand, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The deposits are confined to an area west of a large anticlinal structure feature known as the Steenbok shear zone. The schist stretches over an area of at least 15km in length from a south-south westerly to a north-north easterly direction, displaying an average width of 1.75km over its entire length. The deposits are at their widest in the north-north western limb of the anticlinal shear zone running across the Steenbok farm.
