Gambian mineral sands/Carnegie and Astron put Gambia back on the world minsands map

AS PART of an initial test mining/marketing operation to reestablish Gambian mineral sands on the world market, Australian listed companies Carnegie Corp. Ltd and Astron Ltd hove recently shipped 12,000 tonnes of zircon concentrate to China. Astron's subsidiary, Astron Advanced Materials Ltd based in Shenyang, China, produces a range of zirconias (see zircon millers feature in this issue). This is the key first step in the companies' plans to commence long-term ilmenite/zircon operations in the Batakunku/ Sanyang region of the country.
