In the article "Talc for thermoplastics -- future demands the challenge" published in your May issue, the author Dr Wilhelm Schober speaks of a "white talc shortage in Europe". Luzenac Group, the RTZ owned leading talc producer, would like to clarify the situation as follows. Italian talc producer Talco Val Chisone has been extracting very white (brightness in excess of 90), highly lamellar and chemically pure talc from its Fontane and Crosetto mines near Pinerolo 40km south-west of Turin since the beginning of the century. Over the years, Talc Val hisone talc has gained worldwide reknown in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. It is now being used increasingly for plastics applications.
