摘要

Buffalo pox virus (BPV) belongs to the genus Orthopox and is responsible for considerable losses to the agrarian economy (FAO/ WHO, 1967). For molecular characterization of the virus, concentration and purification are essential steps. The prototype strain (BP-4) and a virulent strain (BP-78) were propagated by continuous passaging and bulk cultivation in vero cell system. The present paper describes the concentration and purification of the buffalo pox virus using sucrose and potassium tartarate density gradient centrifugation, to be used for DNA isolation and polypeptide analysis studies.
