摘要

Climate and erosion are traditionally known as exogenic processes and are long believed to be completely unrelated to endogenic processes like tectonic deformation. Can the former govern the latter or can there be a relationship between the two after all! A new and provocative idea based on a combination of techniques from the inner Himalaya seems to suggest just that. According to it, erosion of mass from Earth's surface may determine where tectonic deformation is most rapid. In other words, going by it heavy precipitation, rapid erosion and active faulting may have a spatial relationship within an orogen like that of the Himalayan belt.
