Tetanus in a kid- a case report

A month old Beetal kid was presented with the history of lateral recumbency, rigidity of limbs and inability to suckle the doe since last night. Clinical examination revealed fever, tachycardia, congested mucous membrane of eyes with slight prolapse of nictitating membrane, tucked up abdomen, extended limbs, opisthotonus and hyperesthesia. The pus smear revealed Clostridium tetani. The kid was treated with 1000 IU of tetanus antitoxin sera im, fortified procaine penicillin @ 10,000 IU/kg b wt bid im,5%DNS -300 ml iv and inj. diazepam @ 0.2 mg/kg b wt iv, 3-4 times daily. The animal improved and stiffness disappeared partially. However, owner did not cooperate and kid died on third day.
