Evaluation of some cultivars of strawberry in sodic soil conditions.

The yield and quality of 8 strawberry cultivars (Confectura, Addie, Gorella, Torrey, Blackmore, Seascape, Shasta and Chandler) were evaluated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, during 2005-06. Chandler registered the greatest plant height (13.50 cm), plant spread (16.30 cm), number of leaves per plant (9.06), fruit length (4.18 cm), fruit diameter (3.02 cm), fruit weight (10.45 g) and yield per plant (1147.02 g per plant). Seascape registered the highest number of flowers and fruit set. The highest total soluble solids content (12.67 degrees Brix), acidity (0.77%) and ascorbic acid content (82.0 mg) were recorded for Torrey.
