Effect of rootstocks on the fruit quality of Sathgudi sweet orange grownon different rootstocks

sweet oranges are the most important commercial citrus types in India after mandarin with a total production of 8.9 lakh tonnes Ghosh et a/., 5. Sweet oranges are adapted well to arid tropics and subtropics. In India, sweet oranges are commerciallygrown in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and parts of T.N., Rajasthan and U.P. The soil and climate are the two major determinants deciding the success or failure of any citrus cultivar in a given location. Several rootstock trials have been conducted in different agro-climatic conditions in India. Therefore, a rootstock trial employing Sathgudi sweet orange as the scion, budded on different rootstocks was laid out to find a suitable rootstock for this agro-climatic region. The present study was undertaken on 12-year-old rootstock budded plants and to study the effect of different rootstocks on the physical and chemical characteristics of fruits of Sathaudi sweet oranae.
