Response of onion to nitrogen and potassium fertilization under semi-arid condition of Rajasthan

摘要

Onion is one of the most commercially important vegetable crops grown throughout the world. India has the largest area under onion cultivation and has the second largest producer of onion bulbs, but the yield per unit area is very low in comparison to other developed countries. Among various production factors, nitrogen and poiassium application are important to attain uniform plant stand and better growth, which ultimately affect the yield of a crop. An adequate supply of nitrogen is associated with vigorous growth and more efficient use of available inputs finally leading to higher productivity (Patel et al. 4; Sharma 6). Application of different doses of potassium increased plant growth, yield and quality of onion (Anez et al., 1; Rizk, 5). Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken with a view to find out the optimum doses of nitrogen and potassium for obtaining maximum and good quality of onion bulb.
