Effect of water stress and rootstocks on leaf mineral composition of grape

Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is one of the most important commercial fruits grown in both tropical and sub-tropical regions of India. Bulk of the production comes from southern and western parts of India comprising mainly semi-arid regions with poor water resources, limited rainfall and other problems associated with excess salts and drought. Interest in grape rootstocks has recently intensified primarily to combat twin problems of salinity and drought (Prakash and Bhat, 10). However, information on the effects of water stress on leaf mineral nutrient levels are largely inadequate. In the light of the above, the present experiment attempts to investigate nutrient uptake pattern in different rootstocks under water stress and to check whether vitis genotypes vary in uptake of mineral nutrients when subjected to moisture stress.
