Nutrient composition and growth performance of apple under varying productivity status

The investigations on nutrient status of apple orchards in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh reveal the overall tow to deficient levels of N, P, K, Ca, Zn, Cu and B in these orchards. In general, the variability in leaf nutrient contents was observed with the increasing productivity levels and higher nutrient contents were found in case of highly productive orchards due to greater fertilizer input and better management. Leaf N, K, Zn, Fe and Mn were found to be significantly and highly correlated with fruit yield. The overall studies indicate that higher and balanced nutrient contents, by adoption of suitable fertilizer and orchard management practices are indicators of higher productivity in apple orchards.
