Pomegranate (Punica grantum L), which belongs to the family Punicaceae, is a favourite table fruit widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, The tree is deciduous in nature when grown in the areas experiencing low temperatures during winter but under tropical and subtropical conditions, it is evergreen (or) partially deciduous (Singh and Sharma, 7), However, under north Indian conditions this plant undergo bud dormancy during winter, which leads to delayed bud break, flowering and fruiting, thereby forcing the farmers to harvest poor quality fruits, Recently, H_2CN_2 has been used successfully on plums (Beaster and North, 1), pomegranate (Haggag et al., 4) and grapes (Pandey and Pandey, 5; Pramanick et al., 6).
