Effect of different rootstock on tree vigour, yield and fruit quality of Campbell Valencia sweet orange

Sweet oranges are mainly grown on Jatti Khatti (Citrus jambhiri Lush) rootstock in arid irrigated region of Punjab. In recent years, a major demand for sweet orange cultivars for export and processing and for an alternative support to Kinnow mandarinhas emerged. Among the recent exotic introductions of sweet orange cultivars, Campbell Valencia is most important one. Rootstocks have their own merits and demerits. There is no single rootstock available that can be regarded as ideal for all the sweetorange cultivars under all types of agroclimatic conditions. Of various factors responsible for citrus decline, rootstocks have been considered to be one of the most contributory one (Aiyappa and Srivastava, 1). Major plantation of sweet organe is beingdone on Jatti Khatti rootstock which declines after 10-15 years of economic field life (Chohan et al., 3). Hence, to select rootstock(s) suitable for Campbell Valencia cultivar of sweet orange, an experiment was conducted.
