According to statistics published by W.H.O, the two countries with the largest annual snakebite deaths in the world are India, with 50,000 and Pakistan with 20,000. Together these countries constitute approximately 55 to 85% of overall world snakebite mortality [1]. When approaching the literature on snakebite it is important to identify two key groups who deal with snakebite. The first group consists of those physicians who regularly deal with snakebite in their hospitals and who strive to improve available data and treatment. Typically they are developing world doctors and officials who work with government facilities where the majority of victims are treated. The paper by Kumar V and Sabitha P is an excellent example of this group's work and advances snakebite knowledge outlining a confirmed fatality from a species that had no previous confirmed fatalities in India [2].
