Densities. rho. and ultrasonic speeds, u, have been measured in binary mixtures of formamide with 2-propanol, 1,2-propanediol and 1,2,3-propanctriol over the entire composition range at 308 K. From the experimental values of rho and u, The values of isentropic compressibilities, K-s intermolecular free lengths. L-f, relative associations, R-A, acoustic impedances, Z. deviations in isentropic compressiblities. DeltaK(s), excess volumes, V-E, deviations in ultrasonic speeds. Deltau and excess acoustic impedances. Z(E) for all the three systems were calculated. The behaviour of these parameters with composition of the mixtures have been discussed in terms of molecular interactions between component liquids. Moreover, the experimental values of ultrasonic speeds were compared with those calculated by using collision factor theory (CFT), free length theory (FLT), Nomoto's relation and Van Dael and Vangeel relation. The suitability of these theories and relations in reproducing the experimental ultrasonic speeds is discussed. [References: 26]
