Compact Jeep due in 2015: Fiat-Chrysler forges ahead with new Jeep crossover and its 500X twin

This awkward-looking test car is an engineering mule for the platform that will underpin both the upcoming baby Jeep and Fiat's new 500X crossover. With Fiat's takeover of Chrysler completed, work on the new cars will now speed up for an expected launch in 2015. The baby Jeep - which could be called Jeepster - will be built at Fiat's Melfi factory in Italy alongside its 500X sister car. The 500X will complete the 500 family line-up, sitting alongside the 500L MPV. Hidden beneath the heavily disguised bodywork is a heavily modified version of the SCCS platform that underpins Fiat's 500L and Punto as well as the Vauxhall Corsa. The platform has been made wider and re-engineered to meet the crash requirements particular to the US.
