Cross examination: The CrossBlue is, at heart, the new seven-seat SUV that Volkswagen will slot between the Tigu'an and Touareg in 2015. Greg Kable drives the hybrid concept
Officially, the Volkswagen CrossBlue remains a concept. Regardless of VW's very public show of intent to place the new SUV into production, no one is willing to confirm that it will be built. Not yet, anyway. It will be, though. A far-reaching strategy to overtake Toyota and GM to become the world's largest car maker by the end of the decade is dependent on the success of the big seven-seater. So while VW still refers to the CrossBlue as a concept some nine months after its debut at the Detroit motor show and its later presentation as the CrossBlue Coupe at the Shanghai show, it can be considered a showroom certainty.
