Audi's current A3 is signing off with a 335bhp RS model. But can it deliver a drive to match its impressive stats. Someone has been trying hard very hard. The braking zone going into each of the dozens of corners on the Col de Vence is punctuated by the distinctive dash-dash-dash skidmarks that tell of a full ABS deployment. And in every turn, the best line from apex to exit is equally well highlighted with fat, dark streaks of rubber that suggest multiple epic battles for traction have been fought here. You don't need to be an expert in tarmac telemetry to find some cautionary tales, too: black lines that streak towards the edge, into banks or drops or the appropriately teeth-like concrete posts mat guard most of the corners; pricey, painful mistakes.
