Mileage 11844 It's not often you get to compare the Cactus with a Chevrolet Corvette. Eight years ago I bought my first American car, a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette C4. One of the things I loved about it was its striking digital dashboard, which featured LCD bar graphs and numerical readouts instead of conventional analogue gauges. To me, they were immensely cool and, just as important, they worked well. So when I first sat in the Cactus, it was with some delight that I saw it had a digital instrument cluster. It seemed appropriate, sitting neatly alongside the central touchscreen and helping to keep the dashboard's profile low. It isn't, however, as well executed as it could be. One gripe is with the speed readout. It's a basic numerical display, so if you're doing 40mph it'll just show '40'. Simple enough. A purely numerical readout for speed isn't ideal, however, particularly when compared with a conventional dial. At first glance you might think it clear and intuitive, but it gives you less information than a dial. A needle sweeping across a speedo tells you not only the current speed but also how quickly things are changing.
