We lucked in big style when we landed on the Isle of Man with Mercedes' new A45 AMG. We'd intended to film the car on the fearsome mountain section of the TT course but the road was closed. They were repainting the white lines and mending the gutters, and it seemed that meant game over. End of a good idea. But after a couple of panic phone calls with the tourist board, we arranged to meet a man called Dave, whose job it is to maintain the legendary 37.7-mile TT course. What Dave says should happen, happens, and for some reason he took a liking to us and our A45 AMG and allowed us to drive straight past the "road closed" signs and on to the mountain to film to our hearts' content. We had the fastest section of the world's fastest road-race track all to ourselves, all afternoon, give or take a paint wagon or two along the way.
