Impact of separate silkworm rearing houses on economic performance - a comparative analysis.

The prime objective of the study was to assess the impact of separate rearing houses on the productivity and profitability in sericulture in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The study revealed that the productivity and cocoon quality could be improved through a separate rearing house. The IRR was above 20.00% for the investment made on rearing house for silkworm, which indicates that construction of separate rearing houses for silkworm is economically viable. Apart from the economic factors, many other qualitative factors such as convenience in rearing, crop stability, control of uzifly, ability to control silkworm diseases etc were the other reasons for the construction of separate rearing house.
