Riserless Ductile Iron Casting - A Case Study

摘要

The number of S.G. iron foundries is increasing as the demand of this material is increasing particularly in the automobile sector. However, the average yield of such foundries ranges from 60-70% maximum in our country. Micro-shrinkage and proper microstructure still remains a challenge to any foundryman. There is a misconception that ductile iron castings are associated with large risers which contributes lower yields. An attempt is being made to make riser-less casting for one of the items in a foundry which ultimately improves the average yield of the concerned foundry. Simulation is also considered as an important tool to achieve this goal. It is expected that this paper will be of immense importance to the ductile iron casting manufacturers of our country to enhance the yield as well as capacity of their foundries.
